Zoom Q&A
When we sent out our Relaunching In-Person Worship Survey, we asked all of you to share any comments or questions you had with us and many of you had questions about how to use Zoom effectively. We have created this Zoom Q&A based off of your most frequently asked questions. We hope this guide is useful to you!
Q: How do I join the weekly Sunday Service through Zoom?
A: It’s as simple as clicking a link! The link to join the service is sent out through several different channels. If you are part of our mailing list, the link to join the service is included in both the This Week At email and the This Sunday email. Links to our Sunday Service are also posted to our Facebook page, the front page of our website, and right here: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/87449795546.
Step 1: Click on the link. This will open a Zoom page on your browser.
Step 2: If you have joined a Zoom meeting before, the page will ask you if it’s okay to launch Zoom. Click on “Yes” or “Allow” or “Open Zoom”; the button will be different depending on your browser. If you have not joined a meeting before, the page will prompt you to download and install Zoom. Follow the directions on your screen to download the program. It will ask you for a display name. This name will be seen by all other participants in the Zoom meeting, so it’s a good idea to use your name.
Step 3: Congratulations you’re in!
Q: Can I join the Sunday Service through Zoom if my computer doesn’t have a webcam?
A: YES - You do not need a webcam in order to join a Zoom meeting! All you need is a microphone. Without a webcam none of the participants will be able to see you, but you will be able to watch the service and speak to other members.
Q: Can I join the Sunday Service through Zoom if my computer doesn’t have a microphone and I don’t have a headset with a microphone in it?
A: NO - Unfortunately, you cannot join a Zoom meeting without a microphone or other device that allows you to speak to the participants with your computer.
Q: I don’t have a computer but would like to participate in the real-time Sunday Service through Zoom! Can I still join?
A: YES - There are ways to join the service even if you don’t have a computer!
Method One: From Your Smartphone
Do you own a smartphone with internet capabilities? You can join with it!
Step 1: Download the free Zoom mobile app from your app store.
Step 2: If you have a Zoom account, sign in to Zoom in the app. You don’t need an account to participate in a meeting though! You can tap on Join a Meeting button instead.
Step 3: Enter the meeting ID and your display name. The meeting ID is included in the This Week At Federated newsletter, the weekly This Sunday email sent out by Pastor Eun-Joo, and is also located on the inside of the weekly bulletin. It is an eleven-digit number and currently it is 874 4979 5546. The ID does change occasionally so make sure you are using the most recent number! Your display name will identify you to other participants in the service.
Step 4: Select if you would like to connect with audio only or both audio and video, then tap the blue Join button.
Method Two: From Your Telephone
You can also dial into a Zoom meeting on your phone, just like calling a regular phone number. While this means you will not be able to see the service or be seen by other congregation members, you will still be able to hear it and people will be able to hear you.
Step 1: Call Zoom’s US teleconferencing number, which is 1 (669) 900 9128.
Step 2: You will be prompted to enter the meeting ID. The meeting ID is printed on the inside of the weekly bulletin and is an eleven-digit number. The number is currently 874 4979 5546. The ID does change occasionally so make sure you are using the most recent number! When you are done typing in the number, press the # key.
Step 3: You will be prompted to enter your unique participant ID. This only applies if you have a Zoom account and are also accessing Zoom on a computer or mobile device, so press the # key again to skip.
Congratulations you have joined the service! While you are listening to a service from your phone, dial *6 to mute or unmute yourself.
